Privacy, in plain English

We don't track you. Here's everything that does and doesn't happen with your information when you use this site.

Reading the site

Sharing

The "Share this" button uses plain links. Nothing is sent to X, Facebook, LinkedIn, WhatsApp or anyone else unless you choose a service and press it. Then you're on their site, under their rules. On a phone, your phone's own share menu opens instead.

Supporting us on Ko-fi

Donations and Club memberships go through Ko-fi (opens in new tab), and payments are handled by Stripe. We never see or store your card details or a password. Ko-fi shows us what supporters normally see on their dashboard: the name you give, your email address, any message, what you paid and your tier. We use that only to run your membership and to say thank you. We never sell it or share it. When Club datasets arrive, they'll be delivered through Ko-fi too. Ko-fi's own privacy policy (opens in new tab) covers what they do with it.

We'll only put your name on anything public if you've told us you'd like that.

Suggesting a fix

If you send us an idea for our Fixes section, we keep a note of it, where it came from, and whether you'd like to be credited. We only publish your name or handle if you say yes. Otherwise it appears as "Suggested by a reader".

Emailing or messaging us

If you email us at [email protected] or message us, we see your address or account name and what you send. We use it only to reply, to check what you've told us, and to fix mistakes. We keep it only as long as we need it for that, and we never pass on who you are without your permission. If you're thinking of sending us something sensitive, read how to reach us safely first.

If you want your name shown

Some Club perks let you choose to have your name or handle shown, on a supporters' wall or in the credits of an investigation you helped start. That only happens if you opt in and tell us the name or handle to show. We store only what you've asked us to publish, and you can ask us to take it down at any time.

Our mailing list

If we send email updates, they go only to people who've opted in through Ko-fi's newsletter feature. Ko-fi holds your address for that, not us, and you can unsubscribe at any time through Ko-fi or the link in any email.

Who's responsible

MatrixReHashed.Com is run by one person, Stephen Wallington, who is the data controller for this site until the business is incorporated. When it's registered as a company, the company will take over as controller, and we'll update this notice and date the change. Questions about your data go to [email protected].

Your rights

You can ask what we hold about you, and ask us to correct it or delete it. If you're not happy with how we've handled your information, you can complain to the UK's data protection regulator, the ICO (opens in new tab).
